Maureen Buckley, JD

Maureen is the Academic Development Director at CELA Belize. She helps harness our expertise to develop programming and quality study abroad experiences for students in non-veterinary majors, like nursing.

A graduate of American University and Northeastern University School of Law, Maureen developed the supplements to higher education textbooks before joining the CELA Belize team. In other chapters of her life, she practiced law and worked with international students spending their high school year in the United States.

Growing up, Maureen’s family always had a house full of exchange students, which introduced her to the benefits of cultural exchange at a young age. In college, she had the opportunity to backpack with other students and professors through 17 countries, studying the history and culture of each place. The knowledge, confidence, and relationships that she developed during that time resulted in both job opportunities and lifelong friendships.

While she loves international travel, Maureen also enjoys a good domestic road trip. She has extensively traveled the United States and hopes to make it to all of the national parks someday. Maureen’s favorite activities are hiking, camping, skiing, and walking her dog in the woods. She lives in the great state of Maine with her husband Jon and her children, Anna and Brendan.
